Herd Evaluations, Baby Updates and Bringing in New Rabbits?!

8/2/2016

I just got  back from a nice vacation in Idaho, but I sure missed my bunnies! Judging by how happy they were to see me I think they missed me too!

Today I'm going to be showing pictures of my juniors and I'll talk about my opinions on them. Then, I'll talk about 2 new bunnies that might be coming into the rabbitry, and go over some updates of Butterfly's and Angie's kits!

First, my oldest junior, Holly's Beth, is a solid cream doe from LCL's Angus and Bramblehedge's Typhoon.

I love this doe. I'm really hoping she'll make a nice mommy. I'm going to breed her on Sunday, the same day as I breed Zuzu and Clementine. She'll be 6 months old next Friday. She's a big girl, about 4lbs 7oz, so I hope she'll have big healthy litters! I love her body, and her width throughout. I hate her crown and ear, but I love her bone. As a false dwarf, her front legs and ears are long, but it's due to being a false dwarf I think, and not her genetics.

Next is my other little junior doe, Holly's Heidi. She's going to be big too....definitely a brood doe. But I'm really looking forward to seeing her babies in the future. She has a fantastic wide and straight hindquarter! I love the width throughout her body, as well as her bone! I wish her ears were shorter, but her head and crown isn't as bad as it looks below - she's molting so her crown and head are gone!

Might as well finish the does off...here is my youngest junior doe, Holly's Huckleberry, and she is developing nicely! Her bone is long and fine, but besides that, she has lots of promising traits. I can see that she's going to have great width in a few months and probably a nice crown too. I love how short her body is!

Now here's one of my junior bucks - Holly's Prince Charming! At the show this past weekend he won his first leg! And multiple noteworthy 2nd and 3rd places as well! I LOVE this buck!

Prince Charming has an awesome body and topline, a great big head and nice thick bone (but a little bit longer than I'd like). However, I wish his ears were rounder and his crown was fuller. But he's also molting right now, so his crown and head are gone as well!

But then...there's my baby Finn....and I'm really excited about this buck!!

He has width to SPARE!! He's so so wide, his bone is fantastic, he has great depth, and I can feel that he's going to have a great head. His crown and ear could definitely be better, but so far I think he's the best buck I have produced, even though Prince Charming has been doing better in the shows. However, he has several 2nd and 3rd place winnings so far as well! Most likely this buck will be my new herd buck!

Some more updates before moving on to baby news....Meet M&S Sarah! This cute broken orange doe will be coming from my friend Liz from Clear Sky Rabbitry! I'm getting her within the next couple weeks, and I'm so excited about her! She is also coming to me *hopefully* pregnant, bred to one of Liz's bucks M&S Ben. Pics below are from Liz! Sarah lacks a bit in the head/ear/crown department, but I'm bringing her in to improve bone, bring the broken gene in stronger, and for her wide HQ! I love the offspring I have seen from her.

ALSO, in the fall once I have my shed, I might be getting a new buck - M&S Ben, from Liz!! I'm excited to bring more bloodlines into the rabbitry. Pics, again, are from Liz! I love this buck. So far what I can tell is that he lacks in bone and mass a little bit, but he has multiple legs (in open), and is a very nice young senior buck. I love his strengths - he has a giant head and a short body which will work so perfectly with my longer bodied brood does!

Now onto news about the BABIES!!! I have checked their genders and I'm almost positive on them, but I won't release them until they have names!

So Angie originally had 3 kits, but 2 were peanuts so she only has one left. That baby is a little black and doing great! So chubby and very cute! In the pictures, her baby is the one kissing my finger in the above picture on the left :) Butterfly originally had 5 but only two survived, a little black and a broken cream that is missing an ear and a half. That baby will be funny looking as an adult I'm sure, but right now it just looks SO cute.

So far, I think 2 out of the 3 will be sold (most likely). Based on the gender of the broken cream, I will most likely be selling that baby. Then, based on the gender of Angie's black kit, I will most likely be selling that kit as well. Only time will tell however. I'm excited to see Butterfly's black kit mature, because so far it has super short ears, a big head, and a wide little body. We can only wait and see!

Remember, I also have several rabbits available right now!! All of them would make amazing pets, or could be used for breeding, and almost all of them could be used for show or 4-H. If you're interested in seeing what I have currently for sale, visit this page HERE.
