Top 10 Tips for Keeping your Rabbit Healthy - Better to Prevent then to Cure
- PROPER DIET is a must. Rabbits need quality pellets, hay, and fresh water.
- FRESH AIR is very important! You don't feel well when you stay cooped up all day and don't get outside, right? If you have a house bunny, try opening a window near the bunny on a nice (and not too windy), day, or take it for a walk on the grass. :)
- Fruits and veggies, once the rabbit is 6mos and older, are very important for providing the rabbit with necessary vitamins and adds variety to the diet.
- Rabbits need a CLEAN ENVIRONMENT. The cage doesn't need to be obsessively sterile, but also can't be trashed every day of its life. Rabbit urine does stink if it isn't taken care of for weeks and weeks! Not only that, the ammonia can severely damage the small bunnies' lungs.
- DON'T FEED any fruits/veggies to a rabbit under the age of 6mos. To play it safe, feed very minimal treats, only a TBS of oats twice a week or so.
- Don't leave your rabbit unsupervised in the yard or anywhere in the house where there could be a poisonous plant, electrical cord, ect. Rabbits love to chew and eat!
- Rabbits love PLAYTIME!
- If you are having a pet rabbit, NEUTERING or SPAYING will help prevent uterine and testicle cancer/ulcers. Your pet rabbit will be healthier and happier if he/she gets spayed or neutered.
- Rabbits love TOYS! Good toy ideas are cardboard, pine cones, store-bought toys, ect!
- Rabbits need LOVE. Without it, they can't survive. Hollands are extremely affectionate and demand attention. If you constantly ignore them, they can get sick.
