Exercise
Do Holland Lops need exercise?
No rabbit is designed to sit in a cage all day with nothing to do. In the wild, rabbits are constantly moving, running from predictors and searching for food. Rabbits have light, small bones that make sprinting across a landscape ridiculously easy. Have you ever seen a rabbit run? They are fast! Not getting exercise can cause bone deformities and skeletal problems in any breed of rabbit. I give my rabbits exercise whenever the weather permits, usually 2-3 times per week. Since my mom is slightly allergic to rabbits, I can't bring them inside, though that is an option for exercising your outside bunny. Rabbits do perfectly fine with getting exercise once a week as long as the cage is big enough for the rabbit to hop around, stretch out, and stand tall.
House rabbits are happier and friendlier in their home environment. They get playtime every day, usually for several hours per day. It's not necessary to take a house rabbit outside, though it is important to make sure that they get good ventilation and fresh air.
It's very amusing to watch a rabbit play and explore outside. They love to nibble the grass, do binkies, and see how fast they can run! If you're going to exercise your rabbit outside on the grass, make sure they don't get too much sun. Rabbits can get heat stroke very quickly. They should also always have water available, especially if they will be playing outdoors for an hour or more.
Another way you can give your rabbit exercise is by using a leash and harness. A rabbit cannot be like a dog, however; they cannot learn to heel. You will be mostly following them around. Some rabbits (like my Cinnamon), love sprinting and you might find yourself RUNNING after the rabbit!
