The truth is, I don't need bunny sales to support my hobby. I love breeding rabbits, this is my pride and joy and something I amazingly enjoy doing. I love showing babies that I have bred myself, and I love seeing amazing babies develop and mature into something incredible. In my eyes, anyway.
I'm in love with everything about this hobby. Especially the babies.
I decided to keep *most* babies I get from now on until they are 3-4 months at least. At that point, I will evaluate them, then decide whether to add to the herd or sell. You can get on the waiting list for a rabbit to be notified once I'm ready to sell juniors. However, rabbits are still sold on a first come, first served basis....so if you don't jump at the rabbit immediately, the one you've been waiting for, it will be sold to someone else who becomes interested.
The exception for the above rule is going to be for brood and obvious pet quality (pinched HQ, longer nose, donkey ears, and sloped HQ are just a few of things I do not want to be working with). I don't wait to keep rabbits that will pass the weight limit as an adult. I have my share of those. I might show some brood juniors, if they have good type. If you're interested in a show rabbit, get on my list and please be patient and prepared to wait a few months until I'm ready to part with one. I will not be keeping every show rabbit I produce. I will sell many. Currently I only have a limit of 4 adults, with only 2 open holes for separating young bucks/does.
Not all litters will be this way. The majority will, though, because the point of my breeding is to produce better and better Holland Lops. I don't breed for pets, though I do have those available and all show bunnies can be sold as a pet. My upcoming litter, Holly's Cinnamon x Blue Storm's Lance will be, however. I am looking forward to this litter.
If you are interested in a pet, just let me know! I will probably have babies for sale around 8 weeks. But if I don't, be prepared to wait a little bit for your dream baby. Older bunnies make just as amazing of pets as baby bunnies! :) And when I sell them, they will still be a baby, just an older baby.
I want to get to the point where I almost always have rabbits for sale. I don't want to always be needing to sell a baby to keep another one.
Sir Lancelot will be for sale later this year. I'll be replacing him with a future son of his. I love everything about him, he's just too big to be shown, and I want to be able to GC my buck. I want the new buck to look just like him - maybe with a few better qualities of Cinnamon's - in a smaller package.
Like I said at the beginning, I don't need to sell rabbits to support my hobby. I am a babysitter/nanny, a pretty busy one, and that is how I pay for all the rabbit supplies and needs. The rabbit money is only extra income. A little reward for my hard work - like the tiny, adorable, precious little babies are!
Thank you for reading. As always, if you have any questions, don't be afraid to contact me!
